Family Day Care Gympie Region celebrated 30 years of service to the local community in August 2014.

 

History of Family Day Care Gympie Region

October 1982
  • The idea of establishing a Family Day Care Service was tabled at the parish Council of the Gympie Uniting Church Congregations.
  • It was to be a unique and innovative activity of the Gympie Parish
August 1983
  • First Co-ordinator Carole Browning commenced duties for a community based Child Care Centre on Horseshoe Bend
  • Establishment of an office and toy library/equipment pool
  • Carer and Parent Advisory Committee was formed to have input into growth of the Scheme
  • Areas covered were Murgon to the west, Imbil to the south, Rainbow Beach to the north west.  Catering for parents who were working e.g. nurses, railway workers, teachers, bean pickers and short term emergency 24 hour care for families in crisis
  • 65 children were in care
  • Playgroup operated 2 day a week
May 1984
  • The Scheme was spreading to Kilkivan, Tin Can Bay and Cherbourg
  • Unrealistic to service this whole area so another scheme was formed in Kingaroy
Late 1984
  • First computer system was introduced with a program to manage the processing of timesheets for the carers with the scheme
September 1986
  • The office moved to 15 Red Hill Road in an office provided by the St Andrew’s Uniting Church.
  • The Scheme was known as Cooloola Family Day CareFDC_old logo
1989
  • The office employed three Co-ordinators and an Administrator
  • The computer program ‘Harmony’ was purchased to manage growing number of timesheets and confidential information relating to families and carers
October 2009
  • Moved premises to 19 Red Hill Road
2010
  • Name change to Family Day Care Gympie Region
2012
  • New National Quality Framework – Regulations and Standards introduced across Australia bought about a Professional image for Family Day Care
  • The carers now known as educators are required to hold a Certificate III in Education and Care or higher
2014
  • Now the co-ordination unit is made up of a Nominated Supervisor, three Certified Supervisors, a Resource Co-ordinator, an Administrator and three Administration staff

  • Celebrating 30 years of Family Day Care in the Gympie region
  • Over 35 EducatorsFDC National Logo
  • Approximately 365 families and 560 children use our service
